The Velvet Tide release dark, evocative alt-folk rocker

Music Review | 30th Aug, 2025 The Velvet Tide The Velvet Tide

Born from the ashes of the acclaimed alt-folk act The Incognito Brothers, The Velvet Tide are carving out a sound that’s all their own, think the grit of alternative rock colliding with the soulful textures of melodic folk. Violins and accordions brush up against guitar-driven rock, creating a soundscape that’s dark, emotional, and strangely redemptive.

Formed in late 2024, this Dún Laoghaire-based collective is a meeting of seasoned musicians from Ireland’s alternative and folk scenes. What makes them special is the balance they strike, light and dark, tradition and modernity, tension and release, all living in the same space. Every voice, every instrument, feels essential to the story they’re telling.

Now, they’re back with their highly anticipated new single, Eveline. It’s a track that leans into their signature contrasts, weaving melodic folk roots with moody, atmospheric rock. Layers of synths and guitars build a rich emotional landscape.

This track knocked around for a year in many guises until we fell on a chorus and groove that opened it up to what it is now. It was a tense time between the main writers as the song was going through its various forms which ultimately ended in a split in the band and a move to a new direction. The song reflects the emotion and dark energy of that time but offers some hope for redemption. - Mick Lawlor (vocals)
