Lauren Wallace & Blair Gilmour
Sometimes the best collaborations start by chance, and that’s exactly what happened when Irish singer-songwriter Lauren Wallace met Scotland’s Blair Gilmour at an open mic night in London. The two instantly hit it off, and before long, they found themselves back in a London studio, turning that spark into something special. The result? Their beautiful new track, Didn’t Wanna Try.
2025 has been a huge year for Wallace. After bursting onto the scene with her debut single Wild Like The West
, she’s been on a creative roll. The follow-up single Used To This
and her stunning debut EP Salt Stained Lungs
have already cemented her as one of Ireland’s most exciting new voices. Now, Didn’t Wanna Try
adds another layer to her growing catalogue, raw, emotional, and totally authentic.
On this new release, both Wallace and Gilmour truly shine. The song’s acoustic heart allows their vocals to intertwine beautifully, creating a warm and intimate sound that feels both effortless and deeply moving.
The first verse of DWT lived in my head for a good few months before I ever even met Blair. I loved it; it was cute and blunt in a way my songs usually aren't, but I just couldn't finish it. It was supposed to be a way of working through a messy situation that was taking up too much of my thinking time, but instead it just aided and abetted my oversized feelings spiral. That's where Blair comes in. I met him for the first time at an open mic in Tower Bridge, and I had no clue what or who I was walking into. We both did our sets, and later on we ended up singing a Bruce Springsteen song together and for four minutes I felt like I knew him. The next day we were in the studio and I showed him the first verse of Didn't Wanna Try and the rest is history.
This song is super special to me because it didn't just help me come to terms with my sticky lil situation, but it made my world so much bigger. Blair is a ridiculously talented human being and I've grown so much as a writer and as a person since meeting him, he accidentally showed me that life is bigger than people who don't want to date you. We hope this song means as much to you as it does to us.- Walalce
Initially, Lauren & I met at an open mic night the day before we took to the studio. Being teens of the music industry we felt a deep connection and understanding on feeling misheard by people closest to us sometimes. The next day in the studio, Lauren showed her untitled demo for "Didn't Wanna Try". Our whole conversation from the night prior started to flow between the lines we were writing and the rest is pretty much history. Meeting Lauren through music has shown me not only how this industry can connect people but also how its a way for people soundtrack a moment in their life (or an era). That's exactly what this song is for me, a moment between two friends, musicians, where nothing besides helping each other out matters- Blair Gilmour
The single, Didn't Wanna Try, is available through all streaming platforms.
