Jangling Guitars and Rising Tides: The Ascent of Smalltown Morals

Music Review | 7th July, 2025 Smalltown Morals Smalltown Morals

Blending indie, shoegaze, alternative, and psychedelic influences, Smalltown Morals are a band of music obsessives united by their diverse tastes. Drawing from a wide range of experiences, they create a sound that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

Fresh off the release of their self-recorded debut EP, Fleeting, Smalltown Morals take their next step forward with Coursing, a shoegaze-laced single captured at Eiger Studios in Leeds. Where Fleeting introduced their DIY spirit, Coursing shows the band sharpening their sound in a new environment

With shimmering modulated guitar lines and jangling rhythms layered over a backdrop of darker tones, Coursing has a bit of a The Smiths vibe. There’s a darker edge underneath it all, and the vocals carry a real emotional punch, it feels honest and heartfelt without trying too hard.

Since their debut release in 2024, the band has been hard at work, with several new releases lined up in the coming months. 2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for the alternative rockers.
