Shobsy
Since dropping his debut single Not Another Love Song
back in early 2025, Dublin’s own Shobsy has been on a serious roll. With follow-up releases like Vanity
, ENTERTAINMENT
, and Champagne
, the singer-songwriter has quickly carved out a name for himself, earning praise not just at home in Ireland, but from fans and radio stations overseas too.
Now, Shobsy’s taking things up a notch with his first-ever EP, Own The Night. His previous single release, Dance Or Cry
was the first taste of what to expect. The track hit No. 4 on the Irish Radio Breakers Chart and snagged major airplay on RTE Radio 1. It even made its way to playlists in Australia and Greece—proof that Shobsy’s sound resonates far beyond Dublin’s borders.
One of the biggest moments in his breakout year came with his performance on The Late Late Show, Ireland’s most-watched TV program. Shobsy delivered a stunning acoustic version of the Jimmy Somerville classic Smalltown Boy
, with just vocals and piano. The stripped-back performance was emotional, powerful, and completely viral—racking up over 100k views in just 12 hours.
Fans of George Michael, David Bowie, or The Weeknd are going to feel right at home with Own The Night
. The EP blends shimmering synth-pop and smooth R&B with Shobsy’s signature vocal flair and stage presence. There’s a magnetic mix of confidence and vulnerability in his music, and it’s that balance that’s won him a growing, loyal fanbase.
The release of Own The Night is a real milestone moment for me. I tried to reflect the point of life I’m in right now. I’m licking my wounds a bit, but enough time has passed that I can look back at the parts of my past that caused me pain—especially in love. I hid who I was for so long. I got used to it. I’m still trying to undo that.
I wrote ‘Own The Night’ a few years ago about the kind of person I wanted to be—but now I realize it was actually about the kind of person I wanted to meet. ‘Not Another Love Song’ was my way of trying to stop writing about the same person, to help myself move on… it only worked for a while!- Shobsy
Fittingly, the EP closes with a haunting rendition of Bronski Beat’s Smalltown Boy
, a song that’s become an anthem for the gay community.
As a gay person, that song has always felt like it holds your hand. Every time I sing it, I feel like it’s holding mine—the hand of a little boy who didn’t want to be who he was.- Shobsy
With Own The Night
, Shobsy isn’t just showcasing his artistry, he’s telling his story. Vulnerable, stylish, and deeply human, this debut EP marks the start of something special for one of Ireland’s most exciting new voices.
The single, Smalltown Boy, is available through all streaming platforms.
