Indie artist, April, releases soft sounding ballad

Music Review | 26th April, 2025 April April

Emerging from the lo-fi world of Garageband, Kildare singer-songwriter, April (April Layor), has earned a reputation on the live stage touring Europe as support to artists such as Alec Benjamin, Matilda Mann and Claud. Describing her music as introspective pop, April intricate songwriting is always the heart of every track, allowing her to follow her intuition and take her writing into different genres and soundscapes.

The latest single from the artist is the dreamy ballad, Puppy. With minimal percussion Aprils smooth vocals are supported by layers of soft synth sounds. Written in mere minutes during a 2023 session in Los Angeles with friend and fellow songwriter Christian Taylor, "Puppy" was inspired by a recent breakup, informed by the conflicting emotions left in its wake.

I wrote Puppy when I was living in London, processing the end of a relationship & how fast someone moved on—almost instinctively, like they couldn't help themselves. It's a mix of frustration and acceptance, wrapped in something lighthearted & funny, I've realised I deal with a lot of big feelings with humour and comedy. I wanted the song to feel like a memory you can't quite place, the little details that stick with you even when everything else fades - April
