Too Tall To See The MoonEP Delivers Raw Energy and Punk-Fuelled Hooks
Dublin's Freak Pointing have taken the scenic route to where they are today. Originally formed in 2020, the band spent several years refining both their line-up and their sound. With musicians coming and going along the way, it wasn't until late 2023 that the group finally settled into a steady line-up that truly clicked.
What emerged was a band built on sharp, catchy original songs, distorted guitars, pounding drums and vocals carrying a distinctly punk-edged attitude.
After earning a reputation on Dublin's local live circuit, Freak Pointing brought that energy into the studio in 2025. The result was a string of releases that steadily built momentum, including the singles Stuck
, Vainglorious
and the early Bandcamp release Joke
. Each track pushed the band's sound further, attracting new listeners and generating growing interest around the group.
With that momentum behind them, Freak Pointing returned to the studio to begin work on what would become their latest release, Too Tall To See The Moon.
From the opening moments, the EP feels raw, direct and unapologetically loud. There's an unmistakable garage rock spirit running through the record, driven by prominent drums, thick fuzzy bass tones and walls of distorted guitar.
Opening track The Circle Beneath
bursts out of the speakers with crunching guitars and infectious energy, setting the tone for what follows. That intensity continues into Third
, a grunge-tinged track that showcases the band's ability to balance melody with weight.
Thumb Tacks
stands as the heaviest moment on the EP, delivering a relentless blast of distorted riffs and driving rhythms. Meanwhile, closing track Unwound
is perhaps the band's most adventurous tracks. Moving between quieter passages and explosive bursts of sound, the song is anchored by a powerful guitar riff and demonstrates a willingness to experiment while retaining the band's core identity.
Lyrically, Too Tall To See The Moon
explores themes of relationships, self-reflection and the way we present ourselves to the world. The songs feel personal without becoming overly introspective, giving listeners plenty to connect with beneath the layers of distortion.
This EP is a collection of songs that captures a band in transition. Too Tall To See The Moon
marks a clear shift towards a heavier, punkier direction, particularly on tracks like The Circle Beneath
and Unwound
. Yet despite the increased intensity, Freak Pointing never lose sight of what makes their music engaging — memorable hooks, strong songwriting and an authentic DIY spirit.
For a band that has spent years finding its footing, Too Tall To See The Moon
feels like the sound of Freak Pointing arriving exactly where they're meant to be.
The EP, Too Tall To See The Moon, is available through all streaming platforms, including the bands Bandcamp page.
