There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about November Dog. After locking themselves away for a year to concentrate on songwriting, the Belfast four-piece emerged with a sound that feels like a modern indie band trapped inside a hazy 1990s time capsule.
Think dreamy indie rock, slightly fuzzy guitars, layers of synths and a healthy dose of retro electronic pop. It’s familiar without sounding dated, giving November Dog a distinctive sonic identity that continues to develop with every release.
Now, following their debut single How I've Been in 2025 and its follow-up Cake
, the Belfast band are back with their latest single, Out Of Ideas.
November Dog Continue Their Rise With Out Of Ideas
November Dog have quickly established themselves as an emerging name worth keeping an eye on within Belfast's thriving music scene. Their debut, How I've Been
, earned plenty of praise, while Cake
showed that the band weren't interested in simply repeating themselves.
Out Of Ideas
takes things another step further.
The track opens with funky, clean-toned guitar chords sitting comfortably over a bed of synths. There's a sense of anticipation before the drums arrive, bringing with them a thumping, insistent backbeat that locks everything into a powerful, driving pulse.
From there, the song just keeps moving.
The vocals are another strong point. Rather than relying on big, showy vocal gymnastics, November Dog opt for something much more authentic and down-to-earth. It suits the track perfectly, giving the lyrics a sense of urgency and honesty.
Then comes the chorus where November Dog really let loose. The relatively restrained opening suddenly explodes into a massive wall of sound, with guitars, synths and rhythm section combining to create a huge, energetic payoff.

. While that previous single dealt with confronting a no-win decision, the new track takes that feeling of being trapped and pushes it further.
This is a song about desperation and being committed to a situation that is ultimately detrimental, yet feeling as though there is simply no other option.
That sense of being boxed in works particularly well alongside the increasingly intense production. As the music grows bigger, so does the feeling of urgency.

more substance than simply being another upbeat indie-rock track. Beneath the catchy guitars and synth-heavy production is a darker emotional core.
Daniel Keown Takes November Dog Further Into Synth-Rock Territory

, November Dog once again turned to Belfast producer Daniel Keown, with the track and ‘Cake’ recorded during the same session.
The collaboration has clearly helped the band embrace their synth-rock influences even further.
There is a noticeable confidence in the production, with the electronic elements given plenty of space alongside the guitars rather than simply being used as background decoration. The result is a broader and more expansive sound that suggests November Dog are still figuring out just how far they can take their musical palette.
With the band refusing to set too many rules for themselves, there is plenty of room for experimentation as they move towards their forthcoming EP.

The artwork for the single comes courtesy of long-time collaborator @vinnythepooh, with the visual designed to reflect the desperation and urgency at the heart of the song.
At this stage, November Dog are only three singles into their journey, but there's already a clear sense that they're building towards something bigger.
What makes Out Of Ideas
particularly interesting is that it doesn't feel like a band trying to fit neatly into one particular genre. There's indie rock, synth-pop, electronic music and retro influences all thrown into the mix, but November Dog manage to make the combination feel cohesive.
With a forthcoming EP on the horizon, they've also given themselves a pretty sizeable sonic playground to explore.
