With heavy distorted guitars and a snarling rock vocal, Empires To Ruin, revisit the days of lockdowns with their latest rocker, Point Of View.
Empires To Ruins consist of longtime friends who grew up on the north coast of Ireland and started playing together around 20 years ago. Forming in 2005 the band went on to do different projects over the years, but reunited in 2023 and have released 3 singles to date.
The latest release follows in the footsteps to the singles, Peacekeepers
and Losing Faith
, expanding on them considerably. The breakdown is by far the most experimental thing the band has done to date. The 3-piece also experimented with some quirky motifs like abruptly bringing the track to a brief standstill upon exclamation of the word stop
in the 2nd verse and then filling the gap before the 2nd chorus with an overtly eccentric cackle. We feel that these add some character to the track.
Point Of View revisits the fear and anxiety associated with the COVID-19 lockdowns in the 1st verse. The 2nd verse then takes a swipe at the government of the day’s handling of the situation and the two are weaved together by the chorus, which adopts a sense of general distrust towards authority. In keeping with the dystopian themes that underpin our lyrical content, the breakdown uses quotes from both George Orwell’s novel - 1984 - and John Carpenter’s 1988 film - They Live
We also revisited the use of - gang vocals. This involved the 3 of us yelling as loud as we could in unison into a single microphone. It comes across as quite ritualistic in the breakdown and conveys a sort of trance-like state that compliments the lyrical theme.
The single, Point Of View, is available through all streaming platforms.
