Alt-Rock Cloakroom Q raise freak flag high with latest track

Music Review | 6th Dec, 2024 Cloakroom Q Cloakroom Q

Since their formation Cloakroom Q have been flying their freak flag boldly, taking influences from jazz and folk by way of Daft Punk and metal, to give the listener something truly original.

The band formed in 2016 with the name coming from a Death Grips gig that some of the band attended. During the performance a brawl broke out in the queue for the cloakroom, and thus the name came to be.

The latest single from the band, Nail In Your Head, is a three-and-a-half-minute track that leaves no stone unturned as the band explores various ideas swaying between lounge act and a heavy metal apocalypse.

Speaking about the writing process behind the track Cloakroom Q say:

It started from Danny and Jared, a combined set of lyrics with guitar and drums being written together during the second lockdown when we were all living together and had nothing better to do.
Those parts are quite angular and disjointed, so when Dan came later with the bass he kept the verses simple and it locks everything in place. Con added some harsh decoration that really makes the song tie together as a whole.
