Alt-rock shapeshifters Cable Boy aren’t wasting any time. The five-piece have been holed up putting the final gloss on their debut album, Forever — and if the early signs are anything to go by, it’s going to be a dark, shimmering ride. Sliding effortlessly between hazy indie dreamscapes, dense shoegaze walls, and the twitchy pulse of post-punk, the band have landed on the perfect self-description: Goth Disco.

If you’ve caught them live recently, you’ll know the hype isn’t manufactured. Cable Boy have been quietly building a word-of-mouth reputation as one of Ireland’s most essential new live acts, the kind that leave rooms buzzing long after the amps cool down. Whether it’s cramped, sweat-slick dive bars, dusty attic gigs, or bigger stages like Beyond the Pale, Forbidden Fruit, and Vicar Street, they bring the same sense of urgency and atmosphere every time. You get the feeling something’s building — and fast.

Following their 2025 single Something In My Head, Cable Boy are now offering another glimpse into what Forever has in store with their latest release, Icarus. It’s a track that pulses with intent from the jump — snappy drums locking in with shimmering, modulated guitars and icy synth textures that swirl just beneath the surface.

But where their earlier material leaned into raw immediacy, Icarus opens the door to something stranger and more cinematic. There’s a shadowy, almost gothic narrative energy running through it — intimate, spoken-word verses that feel like whispered confessions before exploding into a chorus that sticks instantly. It’s equal parts beautiful and unsettling, like dancing alone under flickering neon.

If Something In My Head was the sound of a band finding their voice, Icarus is the sound of them expanding their universe. It hints at a debut album that isn’t afraid to get weird, dark, and a little mythic — the kind of record that doesn’t just soundtrack your night, but reshapes it.

Cable Boy aren’t just arriving. They’re ascending — and Forever might be the moment they fully take flight.
