Irish alt-rock band VERA release pulsing single

Music Review | 26th Nov, 2024 VERA VERA

VERA was born in the recording studio when a group of musicians sharing the same musical interests became slightly obsessed with each other (as musicians and people) and worked through to the middle of the night every night writing together, playing together and becoming mates. By the end of these sessions VERA the band had been formed.

VERA would spend a year, on and off, recording all of the material they had, perfecting the sounds and vibes that they felt most stimulated by and which represented how they are as people.

The latest release from the band is the pulsating single, Lo-Fi, filled with aggressive vocals over beats and fuzzy basslines.

Describing their latest release VERA say;

Lo-Fi is a song about being disillusioned with love and the pursuit of happiness. It describes how we, through the pain of a breakup, seek solace in mundanity rather than idealised notions of happiness. The song reflects the mix of longing and resignation we feel as we push through the physical and emotional toll of heartbreak.
Lo-Fi is about giving in to late night distractions as a brief escape from the inner chaos we feel as we grieve love. In the bridge the song gives into the chaos, and falls into a frantic outburst as the R&B tinged vocals of the chorus are overtaken by noisier, aggressive synth arpeggiators; pulsing, growling bass; and a surreal narrated vocal.

A lot of VERA's songs are about shit boyfriends. They believe that heartbreak is easier to deal with sarcastically and that shit boyfriends are quite a funny topic... One objective of the live show is to share this distinctive take on relationships with other people and maybe even help pull them through their own difficult experiences with humour and DGAF energy. It resonates!!
