Irish indie rock artist Trophy Wife releases debut EP, Showpony

Music Review | 3rd March, 2024 Trophy Wife Showpony Showpony EP (Cover Artwork)

Trophy Wife is the alias of Ruby Smyth, an Indie/Rock songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, who has been carving a name for herself in the Irish Indie scene.

The latest release, Showpony, is the much anticipated debut EP following the singles Scully (2023) and Party Girl released early 2024, giving hints of what to expect from the singer songwriters first collection of songs.

The EP Showpony has definite hints of 70's and 90's rock & indie rock along with Trophy Wifes personal style mixed in.

The album kicks off with the title track, Showpony, a straight out of the box indie track, combing riffs and jangle guitars which is followed by Scully, keeping the rock momentum going.

Its not just pounding drums and jangle rock guitars. Trophy Wife tones it back with the slow paced Drug Dog before Party Girl's fuzzy guitar and melodic vocals.

The EP comes to an end with the raw and delicate, Anybody's Game, which sees the singer accompanied with guitar and subtle percussion.

The dubet EP is a must for all fans of indie music from an artist who is on the rise.
