Some Ones Son
Blending traditional Irish roots with a fresh, modern twist, Some One’s Sons are a five-piece band carving out their own soulful corner of Ireland’s folk scene. Their mix of original ballads and inventive spins on traditional tunes has been turning heads across the country.
Their latest single, The Chance to Feel Alive, dives deep into that familiar tug between escapism and reality. It’s a raw, emotional folk tale about chasing fleeting relief from the pressures of modern life, soaring rents, emigrating friends, and the daily grind that wears you thin.
Musically, the track feels like a journey through both past and present. It’s drenched in folk textures, Celtic-inspired guitar, layers of bouzouki and a touch of western flair, creating a soundscape that’s both grounded and expansive.
Lyrically, it hits hard. The refrain, 10 pints of porter and the chance to feel alive,
feels like both a rallying cry and a lament, an anthem for anyone who’s ever tried to find hope in the bottom of a pint.
Sometimes the easiest place to find hope is at the bottom of a pint" — a sentiment that resonates through every line and chord of the track.- Daniel Allen (Vocals)
One of the most memorable moments comes with the line And the drink is singing,
followed by the haunting, hypnotic Na na na...
refrain. It loops and lingers, much like the pull of the drink itself, echoing the comfort and the danger that come with distraction. The chant builds into something almost ritualistic, capturing that bittersweet edge between joy and surrender.
The Chance to Feel Alive
isn’t just another folk tune, it’s a reflection of modern Ireland, told through the timeless lens of music and storytelling.
