Sean Fox
Known as the frontman of The Year Grunge Broke, Seán Fox has become synonymous with raw, high-energy performances and that unmistakable grunge edge. But Seán’s solo journey is carving out something very different, something personal, intimate, and deeply reflective.
Already, he’s taken to some of Ireland’s biggest stages, from The Academy in Dublin to Electric Picnic and Forest Fest, building a loyal following along the way. Now, with his latest release Penny for the Stranger, Seán is opening a powerful new chapter as a solo artist.
Armed mostly with an acoustic guitar, the track begins with Seán’s signature raspy vocals and haunting guitar lines, before swelling into an epic, cinematic soundscape that feels both nostalgic and cathartic.
Lyrically, Penny for the Stranger
has roots in a story passed down from Seán’s grandfather, a memory of meeting a busker more than fifty years ago. The song explores empathy, fleeting connections, and the way music can tie generations together.
When my grandfather shared this memory of a young busker he met as a young man, I was struck by how music can leave such a lasting mark on us, even decades later. I wanted to write a song that captured that sense of connection, the way a single encounter with music – or with a stranger – can stay with you forever.- Sean Fox
With Penny for the Stranger
, Seán Fox reveals a softer, more introspective side, proof that his artistry goes far beyond the grunge sound he’s best known for. It’s a song about memory, music, and the human moments that echo through time.
The single, Penny For A Stranger, is available through all streaming platforms.
