Inspired by artists such as Róisín O, Damien Rice, The Cranberries, Aurora and Joni Mitchell, Irish singer-songwriter, NIV is an artist who takes influences from Irish traditional and blends them with her own unique and modern sound.
The latest single, Mitchells Blue, is a soft sounding folk-pop ballad with a powerful, and emotional, vocal performace from NIV. For most part we hear her vocals supported by piano and guitar, however as the track progresses additional instruments are added elevating the track further.
Lyrically the song is about a missed opportunity of love and delves into the regret and nostalgia that often comes with it. The song uses Joni Mitchell's most famous album Blue
to describe the memory that still lingers in the narrator's mind of someone they loved but didn't see or understand it at the time.
I was sitting at my piano one day, trying to look for inspiration. My Mam had bought me this beautiful book of Joni Mitchell's songs, poetry and art and I had it sitting on top of my piano. I looked through this book and then started playing and 'Mitchell's Blue' came out- NIV
