Drawing on influences in the shape of Foo Fighters and Nirvana, Belfast's brightest emerging talents, Empty Spaces, are building a reputation for crafting songs that are a heads down musical assault filled with hook after hook.
The latest offering from the four-piece is In Motion, a guitar driven track with blistering riffs, distorted power-chords and a snarling punk-rock vocal delivery packed with energy.
For Empty Spaces songwriting happens in a very organic way with members bringing in ideas to the practice room to see if they pass the Empty Spaces litmus test, the band then bring their respective hammers to the anvil, working through ideas, allowing the song to take shape.
The band consist of tight bro's from way back when; Stephen (vocals/guitar) and Rahul (bass/vocals) who were later joined by Paul (guitar/vocals) and Alex (drums). Taking their name from a Pink Floyd song, as a nod to another influence and facet of their sound. The band have started to imbue the name with their own meaning.
With In Motion
, the band know the importance of a vocal hook which they deal out here in spades. For all the crashing drums and tinnitus inducing guitars, at the centre are Stephens vocals, line after line getting trapped in your head.
In Motion
is a statement of intent that helps cement the band as contenders for the crown, capturing the visceral energy they bring to their live show, they deliver a hefty slab of rock n roll. They don't set out to reinvent the wheel but they'll have a few beers with you while they give it a spin.
The single, In Motion, is available through all streaming platforms.
