Four-piece band, DREAM BOY, release latest shoegaze track

Music Review | 25th Apr, 2025 Dream Boy Ivory Dream Boy

Dublin quartet, Dream Boy, are a band known for their exploration of sonic layers and guitars. As the band prepare for the launch of their forthcoming debut EP, Drowning In Blue, they have released their latest shoegaze single, Ivory.

The opening track of the forthcoming EP, Ivory is drenched in melancholy tones with a slow tempo, haunting vocals and wall of layers built from shimmering guitars.

Lyrically, Ivory is about letting go. It's about hearing the same things and seeing the same behavior but for the first time instead of going back, walking away

I have an image in my head of a documentary I saw as a child where animal protection services remove the tusks from animals to protect them from poachers looking for Ivory. This really stuck with me, the idea that these beautiful creatures were being killed for this material when really in order to retrieve it they did not need to be hurt.
I was struggling with the ending to this song, I had most of the lyrics but was missing the songs real purpose. I'd been listening to a song called 'blue' by dream ivory which must have put the word in my head and once it was in it all just clicked and fell into place.
The demo is worlds different from how the song sounds now but that's why I love writing with these guys and working with our producer Daniel De Burca, we really explore and exploit the idea, taking into a totally different world.
